First Era : The Beginning of Law at Kasetsart University
In 1943, the University established the legal studies under the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration which aims to study about laws of the co-operatives (Section 3, Royal Decree on the Faculty Division in Kasetsart University B.E. 2486)
Second Era : The Establishment of the Department of Law, Kasetsart University
In 1980, Kasetsart University approved the establishment of the Department of Law under the Faculty of Social Sciences which consist of the objective of establishment with the reasons of the following:
- To accept the necessity to teach law
- To understand that law is a fundamental subject and an elective to the general students especially those who studies political and administrative science. (students are eligible to apply as an elective as a secondary subject in law)
- To provide legal assistance to the academics both within the university and out.
Present : 43 Years of the Department of Law
“Aiming to develop the potential of the students of Kasetsart University to gain the legal knowledge to serve the community.”
In 2003, the “Bachelor of Laws – LLB” degree has been approved by the committee of the higher education. The Department of Law has been receiving students for the first time in 2005 through the central admission system of the Ministry of Education.
Then in 2007, the Department of Law expanded its opportunity of education to establish the “Bachelor of Laws Special Program” to provide the opportunities to the students who desire to study in the Department of Law with the amount of 120 students for the Special Program. Also, the establishment of the separate study sections of the regular program and the special program which both programs are identical both quality and lecturers to one another.
With the uprising quality grown in each year. In 2019, the Department of Law, Kasetsart University, has been approved by the Asian Law Students’ Association : ALSA Thailand to establish the Association in the name of “ALSA Kasetsart” within the University as the 5th local chapter of Thailand, which consists of the local chapters from Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, Chiangmai University, Assumption University and Kasetsart University. Which aims to promote the Department to a Law community on a broader scale.
Up to this date, we have nearly two thousand law students both graduates and undergraduates who received the Bachelor of Laws LL.B degree from the Department of Law, Kasetsart University.
